The prebuddhist shamanistic popular beliefs and the Buddhist beliefs concerning the soul and its post-mortem fate have not been completely eradicated, neither by three centuries of anti Shamanistic policy of the Buddhist clergy nor by a half-century of antireligious policy of the Communist Party.
