The advertised rate of Euros at the desk is ludicrous and not in keeping with the tatty worn look of the foyer. Worse still, the beds were terrible as metal springs were sticking through the mattresses making for a bad night's sleep. The shower was tiny and I kept knocking the tap to a closed position. There is a sex massage site on the second floor of the hotel but it is very discrete and there was no interaction with the hotel apart from shared stairs with signs pointing to the massage parlour.
But it still made me feel the hotel was less than secure. The continental 'breakfast' was pretty standard e. Although the room has a wonderful mediaeval feel. The views from our room were very good and the best aspect of the hotel which is really well located. Staff were very friendly and polite and speak English.
The hotel couldn't send my postcard though. Whoever owns this hotel needs to update furnishings, provide a lick of paint and get rid of the sex massage parlour. This is a budget hotel and in need of some updating. It's hard to explain but it's as though the main accommodation area is in a tenement style building, built around an inner courtyard, and not all of the accommodation in the building is part of the hotel. Some of the hotel rooms look onto the inner courtyard, and some face onto the street.
While we were there, there was some work underway in relation to air conditioning, I think. It was very warm and we did have an air conditioning unit in the room but it didn't work, and in the hallway, the pipes and electricals above the ceiling were exposed and there was some work under way, presumably to make the air conditioning units operational.
Our room had a side view of the Danube and a balcony, but the balcony door didn't seem to lock properly, and there was a very busy road directly outside this part of the building which was noisy day and night. Nor is there a hairdryer or an iron - you have to ask for these at the reception desk, and on the occasions that i asked for the iron it was nowhere to be found.
