Aisha was forced into sex work in one of the world's poorest and most conservative countries, where the penalty can be death. She met Uncle Lang, who took Aisha and other girls to the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif to beg and sell sex.
Her parents had been encouraging her to work with Uncle Lang. Meanwhile, Samira has been homeless since she ran away from home when she was fifteen, and had forty-five clients. The trajectories of the lives of sex workers are inextricably connected to the decades of violence, diaspora, and severe poverty.
